MURDER IN PROGRESS: THE EXTERMINATION OF JOHNNY ROBINSON
Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (FADP) condemns the
anticipated extermination by the people of Florida, of Johnny Robinson, in
revenge for his murder of Beverly St. George. Activists will stage highly
visible protests at the prison and in major cities across the state. For
details on local plans, please visit http://www.fadp.org/localprotests.html
"This may be just another run-of-the-mill execution for Governor Bush, but
once again the Governor has signed a death warrant on a case that points to
severe and worrisome problems with the death penalty in our state," said
Abe Bonowitz, Director of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death
Penalty. "58 murders occurred in St. Johns County over an 11 year period,
with 33 of the victims in those cases being white. Yet only three of those
cases resulted in a death sentence, and they were all cases where the
victim was white. Robinson is an African American. The other issue of
primary concern is the fact that Robinson's co-defendant agreed to testify
against Robinson in order to avoid a possible death sentence for
himself. His testimony has changed - who is telling the truth?"
