A Response from

FLORIDIANS FOR ALTERNATIVES TO THE DEATH PENALTY

CONTACT: Abe Bonowitz, 800-973-6548

Jeb Bush "Pining and Signing" for Votes

It has been reported that Florida Governor Jeb Bush says he will continue to sign death warrants, despite the fact that the Florida Supreme Court is reconsidering whether the state's capital punishment law is constitutional.

"In view of Florida's budget crisis, it is fiscally irresponsible for Governor Bush to sign new death warrants when he knows they will be stayed," said Abe Bonowitz, director of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (FADP). "Florida taxpayers bear the cost for lawyers on both the prosecution and defense sides. To make those lawyers jump through hoops just so he can win a few political points with conservative voters is reprehensible. Jeb Bush has a record of using the death penalty as a political football. FADP says "Enough! It is time for a "time-out" on executions!"
