FADP STATEMENT ON NEW KILLING DATE FOR AMOS KING

"Governor Bush has set February 26, 2003 as the new date to kill Amos King, despite the fact that significant questions remain about King's guilt. In fact, the DNA testing yielded no results. If Governor Bush was concerned enough to issue a last-minute stay on December 2nd, how can he now be convinced that Mr. King is guilty?

"Because questions remain about Amos King's actual guilt in the murder of Natalie Brady, and because the evidence which would have yielded the most conclusive results was actually destroyed long ago by the state, and because Mr. King also has a life sentence in another matter, Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty urges Governor Bush to commute Amos King's death sentence to life without the possibility of parole.

"Further, because Florida has just released its 25th exonerated death row prisoner (Rudolph Holton), and at least two others are awaiting inevitable release (Billy Kelley and Paul Hildwin), FADP renews its call for an immediate "Time-out" on executions in Florida."
