THIS is how they balance the numbers in Florida!

Does Juan Melendez look “white” to you?

Juan Melendez's death row ID card

This is a scan of Juan Melendez’ actual prison ID card. This document is evidence that the Florida Department of Corrections paints a skewed picture of the death row and prison population by listing Hispanics as “White,” instead of subcategorizing people as “Hispanic,” “Not Hispanic,” or “Black Hispanic.”

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, the chart at the right gives the count of how many white, black, and “other” males are currently on Florida’s death row. What would those numbers look like if the DOC counted the same way the US Census does? Demand an audit at [email protected].

Total on Death Row in Florida Total White Males 228Total Black Males 128Total Other Males 10Total White Females 1Total Black Females 0Total Other Females 0
