7 Executions in 6 Months

June 23, 2025 by FADP

The State of Florida plans to execute Thomas “Tommy” Gudinas tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24 at 6 pm. If carried out, it will be the seventh execution in just 131 days – and the most executions conducted under Governor DeSantis in his more than six years in office.

Governor DeSantis has the sole authority to stop this execution at any time, for any reason. Unless he acts, Tommy will be killed by the state despite a lifetime of unaddressed trauma, brain damage, and severe mental illness.

Thousands of you have been urging Governor DeSantis to stop Tommy’s execution:

“Please, stop killing in the name of justice.”

“We failed to help this child. Have mercy.”

“It is just as wrong for you to kill him as it was for him to kill a person.”

“None of us can know where we would be today if we had been subjected to the abuse and instability that marked Tommy Gudinas’ childhood. The state does not need to kill Tommy Gudinas for Floridians to be safe. He can be held accountable with a sentence of life without possibility of parole. Let’s stop the cycle of violence.”

We will be delivering your petition signatures and personal comments to the Governor and Executive Clemency Board on Tuesday. If you haven’t already, please:

Sign the petition to stop Tommy’s execution

  • Send a message to Governor DeSantis

If this execution proceeds, we will again be across from Florida State Prison at 5 pm tomorrow for our vigil and protest. We must continue to show up – either at the prison, online, or at one of the events happening across the state.

The Governor has the power. It’s up to us to demand he use it.

Onward,
FADP Staff
