Your voice matters. House Bill 6013 “Death Penalty” and Senate Bill 472 “Death Penalty” have been introduced in the 2019 Florida Legislature. This legislation needs your support. Please contact your Florida State Senator or Representative and ask them to co-sponsor these “Death Penalty” bills. These bills would end the use of Florida’s Death Penalty. Florida’s Death Penalty program is wasteful, costly, and unnecessary. It risks the execution of innocent people. 28 people on Florida’s Death Row have been exonerated and released thus far. Act Locally: End the Death Penalty where it begins
Contact the Governor:
Please contact Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and urge him not to sign Death Warrants and order a unbiased, thorough, and complete investigation of Florida’s costly, wasteful, racially biased, and mistake-ridden death penalty program.
The best estimate is that trying to enforce the death penalty costs Florida taxpayers at least $51 million per year over and above the cost of sentencing the same people to Life in Prison. The death penalty is much harder on murder victim’s families. There is no proof whatsoever that it deters violent crime. Florida has had far more innocent people exonerated and released from death row than any other state (28 thus far). It’s time to end executions and re-invest these huge sums of taxpayer dollars in well-proven, cost-effective methods to prevent violent crime, protect Florida families, and quickly provide for the needs of victim’s families and all those impacted by violent crime.
