NEW WARRANT: James Duckett

February 27, 2026 by FADP

As Florida prepares to execute Billy Kearse this Tuesday at 6:00 pm, Governor DeSantis has signed the 5th death warrant of 2026. James Duckett, a former law enforcement officer, is scheduled for execution on March 31 for the 1987 murder of Teresa McAbee. We will have more information soon, but for now please sign his petition.

Billy Kearse: Execution Scheduled for Tuesday

The murder of Sgt. Parrish devastated his family and the Fort Pierce community. Nothing about our opposition to this execution diminishes that loss. Still, Billy is a person with intellectual disability who was just 18 years and 84 days old at the time of the crime, which is exactly why three Florida Supreme Court Justices said his was “clearly not a death case.” Basic decency and the rule of law demand we take that seriously.

Michael Lee King: A Life in Totality

Michael King is scheduled to be executed on March 17 for Denise Amber Lee’s murder, a devastating crime and irreversible loss. Her life continues to be honored through meaningful reform to Florida’s 911 system. Nothing diminishes that truth. But the law requires punishment to be reliable and proportionate.

At six years old, Michael suffered a severe frontal lobe injury in a sledding accident that left him unconscious and bleeding. Neuropsychological testing and brain imaging later revealed structural abnormalities affecting executive functioning. The full scope of that injury was never adequately presented to his sentencing jury. He was a neurologically injured child long before he was a defendant.

Independent Reporting Confirms What We’ve Been Saying

A new investigation by Mother Jones, published in partnership with The Florida Tribune, takes a hard look at Florida’s pace of executions and how they are being carried out.

Drawing from court records, prison drug logs, autopsies, and eyewitness accounts, the reporting highlights the documented problems in at least half of Florida’s executions last year. Those issues, as many of you know, include expired drugs, underdosed paralytics and cardiac drugs, use of lidocaine not listed in the official protocol, and drug logs that didn’t match execution dates. Please take a moment to read and share the article.

We know it has been a hard year already. We know you are exhausted, angry, and discouraged. We are, too. But we are also thousands strong. We are watching closely. We are documenting everything. We are telling the truth about what is happening in this state. And we will not stop. Like we shared last week, bricks are falling.

Onward,
The FADP Team

P.S. Each warrant is a political act. Our response must be just as intentional. Through Every Warrant, A Response, we ask folks to give $20.26, or an accessible amount, every time a death warrant is signed. It ensures that no execution moves forward without organized opposition. Please consider standing with us in this way.
