One Week to Save Michael Tanzi

April 1, 2025 by FADP

We know that the death penalty debases all of us. In the last week, however, the State of Florida sunk to new levels. It is starting to feel like cruelty is their point.

Florida Supreme Court Denies Michael Tanzi’s Claims

Michael Tanzi is scheduled to be executed on April 8 at 6 pm — and the State of Florida is denying him the basic human right to see his legal and spiritual advisors in his final days.

Tanzi suffers from debilitating sciatica and spinal damage, leaving him barely able to walk. Yet Florida State Prison has repeatedly refused to provide him a wheelchair, despite his documented medical condition and multiple requests.

Let that sink in: The State is barreling toward execution while effectively blocking him from accessing the very people who could help him in his final moments — legally and spiritually. The Court in denying relief on that claim concluded: “Nor can we say that Tanzi has a clear legal right to whatever medical treatment or accommodation he requests of corrections personnel.”

Now, Governor DeSantis is the single executive official who can stop this execution. Let the governor know what you think by sending him a message now and calling his office at 1-850-717-9337.

On Tuesday, we will be sending your signatures to Governor DeSantis, the Florida Board of Executive Clemency, and other administrative officials. Please continue to sign and share our petition and make your voices heard.

Warrant Signed for Jeffrey Hutchinson

Jeffrey “Ranger” Hutchinson is a decorated Gulf War veteran. He was sickened in combat by repeated exposure to nerve gas and was turned away from treatment when he got home. More than 25 years ago, for acts committed while he was still suffering from that untreated illness and trauma, Jeff was sentenced to death. He fought for our country. Now, the State of Florida plans to kill him on May 1.

In this powerful video, you’ll hear from Jeff’s family, fellow soldiers, and friends. Please, stop what you are doing and watch now. Please share it. Please help us tell the truth about who the State of Florida is killing in our names.

If you are a veteran and/or someone connected to a veteran’s group, please email us now at [email protected]. Stay tuned in the coming days for more actions for Jeff.

Dangerous Death Penalty Expansion Bill Going to a House Vote This Week

HB 693, which unnecessarily adds aggravators to Florida’s already broken death penalty, is headed to the floor of the Florida House of Representatives for a vote – we have two separate actions for you to take for this bill.

Are you a Florida resident? Take action today and contact your specific elected Florida Representative here with one click.

For our friends outside of Florida, Take action today and contact every Florida Representative here with one click.

Tell the Florida House to vote NO on this bill. Let them know that people inside and outside of Florida OPPOSE this legislation.

We must keep calling out their cruelty. Take these actions TODAY.

Michael Tanzi needs you. Jeff Hutchinson needs you. The rest of the people awaiting execution on Florida’s death row need you.

Onward,
Maria DeLiberato
Executive Director
P.S. We need you too. Make a contribution today so that we can continue fighting against Florida’s killing machine. Please click here to donate.
