In two days, on Thursday March 20 at 6 pm, the State of Florida is set to conduct its 108th state-sanctioned murder and execute Eddie James.
LET THE GOVERNOR KNOW WHAT YOU THINK
Governor DeSantis is the single executive official who can stop this execution. That’s why we need you to send him a message today and urge him to grant a stay. You can also call at (850) 717-9337.
ATTEND A PLANNED VIGIL FOR EDDIE JAMES
If Eddie’s execution proceeds this Thursday, we will be at Florida State Prison for our vigil beginning at 5 pm, and advocates across the state will also hold vigils and protests. Join them in person or virtually to recognize Eddie’s humanity. Find more information on our website.
SIGN AND SHARE OUR PETITION
On Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm, our friends at Death Penalty Action will be hand delivering your petitions to the Governor’s Office. And on Thursday morning, we will electronically send those signatures to Governor DeSantis, the Florida Board of Executive Clemency, and other administrative officials. Please continue to sign and share our petition. Every signature, every voice, will be seen and heard, reinforcing our collective call for justice.
MICHAEL TANZI EXECUTION
While we continue fighting to save Eddie’s life, we are also working to stop Florida’s next planned execution – that of Michael Tanzi, which is scheduled for April 8 at 6 pm. Once you’ve taken action for Eddie, please take a moment to sign our petition urging Governor DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency to stay Michael’s execution. Click here to sign and stay with us for more information.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
While the state presses on with executions, some legislators are also trying to make it easier for people to end up on death row by expanding the number of situations in which a death penalty can be applied. We can only defeat the erosion of our freedom if we stand together. Please continue to watch for opportunities to help us fight, and click here if you are interested in helping us organize, especially if you are in the Tallahassee area, as we have specific requests for locals there.
