Stay the Execution of Dominick Occhicone

Dominick Occhicone is facing execution in Florida on Tuesday, July 28 at 6 pm for the 1986 murders of Raymond and Martha Artzner. If the execution proceeds, it will be the 11th in Florida this year.

Nothing can diminish the profound loss suffered by Raymond and Martha’s family and loved ones. We remember them today and recognize that the pain caused by their deaths has lasted for decades.

Nearly forty years have passed since this tragedy. Dominick Occhicone has spent those decades imprisoned, growing older while society has remained protected. He is now 80-years-old and would be 81 in August.

Five jurors voted to spare Dominick’s life, and even the sentencing court recognized that he was acting under extreme mental and emotional disturbance. His case reflects the devastating consequences of untreated addiction, emotional crisis, and human failure—not a problem that another execution can solve.

Life imprisonment without the possibility of parole would continue to hold Dominick accountable while rejecting another irreversible act of violence carried out in the name of justice.

We respectfully urge Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency to halt Dominick Occhicone’s execution and commute his sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
