URGENT ACTION: Contact your Legislators!

February 26, 2022 by FADP

WE NEED YOU TO TAKE THIS 5 MINUTE ACTION!

The Florida legislature is expected to vote soon on a bill that would make secret how the state obtains lethal injection drugs for executions.

FADP has been opposing this legislation, which is being pushed by the Department of Corrections. But we have to do more. And we need your help.

Many legislators – even some who oppose the death penalty – want to make this discussion only about the process and not the death penalty.

They have it all wrong.

One of the fundamental aspects of our justice system is public access to information that can hold the system accountable for errors and injustices.

Under proposed legislation, the Florida Department of Corrections would be prohibited from releasing any information about the State’s purchase of the drugs used in executions. Not to the public. Not to the media. Not even to the pharmaceutical companies that oppose the use of their life-saving drugs to kill people.

Enough is enough. Here is what to do:

Contact your Florida State Senator and House Representative. Tell them to vote NO on S.B. 1204/H.B. 873, the lethal injection secrecy bill.
