The People vs. The Death Penalty

We are joining our friends at Death Penalty Action, Red Letter Christians, Journey of Hope… From Violence to Healing, Witness to Innocence, and dozens of other groups for presentations across the state leading up to Thursday at 6 pm, when Donald Dillbeck is scheduled to be executed. In addition to our scheduled vigils and protests, please join us:

Wednesday, February 22:

  • 12:30 pm – Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1014 N Halifax Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32118
  • 4:00 pm – Duval County Courthouse, 501 W Adams St, Jacksonville, FL 32202
  • 7:00 pm – Abolitionist Gathering: Bellwether, 117 W Forsyth St, Jacksonville, FL 32202

Thursday, February 23:

  • 5:00 pm – Vigil at Florida State Prison in advance of the execution scheduled for 6:00 pm, 23916 NW 83rd Ave, Raiford, FL 32026

Friday, February 24:

  • 12:00 pm – Service of Remembrance at the State Capitol, 400 S Monroe St, Tallahassee, FL 32399

Additionally, these groups have worked together to produce a documentary series about the people directly impacted by the death penalty and those fighting to abolish it. The first four videos are available here. Watch and share them as much as possible so that we can amplify these voices, all of who have a Florida connection.

  • SueZann Bosler – Who witnessed her father’s murder and was stabbed and left for dead in the same incident, sharing her experience of the healing power of forgiveness
  • Derrick Jamison – Tampa resident and exonerated Ohio Death Row Survivor
  • Herman Lindsey – Exonerated Florida Death Row Survivor and Executive Director of Witness to Innocence
  • Ron McAndrew – Former Warden at Florida State Prison, who carried out Florida’s final three electric chair executions
