Diocese of St. Augustine Bishop Estevez Releases Letter on the Death Penalty.

June 18, 2020 by Mark Elliott

Bishop Felipe Estévez of St. Augustine has released a pastoral letter to the faithful of his diocese. His compassionate and thought-provoking letter is entitled,

Standing Up for the Dignity of all Human Life: A Pastoral Letter on Capital Punishment in Florida.

Bishop Estévez also draws attention to the dignity of the victims of the accused and their families, saying, “A vital dimension of our prayer and our advocacy remembers the victims…they must never be forgotten.”

“I wish for a 21st-century humane prison system in Florida where no person is killed by the state, and society is fully protected. Where inmates are given the opportunity to reform their livesin a more compassionate environment. This dream is realistic and possible for most of them. Let us make a difference enacting a coherent culture of life for the benefit of all.”
