FL Execution Vigils, Protests Growing

July 6, 2014 by Mark Elliott

Throughout Florida, more than 20 vigils will protest Florida’s use of the Death Penalty during the scheduled July 10th execution of Eddie Davis. Vigils and protests will take place in Cape Coral, Jacksonville, Bunnell, Ft. Walton Beach, Holiday, Key West, Lakeland, Miami, Mount Dora, Osprey, Palm Beach Gardens, Panama City, Pensacola, Perry, Pinellas County, St. Augustine Beach, Sarasota, Tallahassee (4), and Winter Park. Bus and carpools to the protest across from the Death Chamber at Florida State Prison will make pickups at locations in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Palm Coast, and Gainesville.

For details on times, addresses, and contact info for vigil/protest coordinators please visit the FADP “Vigils and Protests” page.

Michael Stone explores the power and purpose of execution vigils in a Guest Post, “The Value of Execution Vigils” in the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty Blog.  Read more.
