Floridians Rally in Tallahassee to End the Death Penalty

April 4, 2017 by Bridget Maloney

On Thursday, March 30, more than 400 concerned Floridians, representing a diversity of groups from across the state, rallied with us at the Capitol building in Tallahassee calling for an end to the death penalty, and supporting Orlando State Attorney Aramis Ayala’s decision not to seek death sentences.

10 buses along with carpools brought Floridians from Pensacola, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa/St. Pete, Broward, and Miami-Dade. 130,000 petitions were delivered to Governor Scott. It was a beautiful, powerful, and inspirational experience.

More than 20 Florida leaders spoke passionately to the crowd about the current and historic realities of Florida’s death penalty program.

Herman Lindsey, Witness to Innocence, Florida’s 23rd exonerated death row survivor (Ft. Lauderdale)  with Christine Henderson, Equal Justice USA (L)

Senator Randolph Bracy with Christine Henderson of Equal Justice USA

Ingrid Delgado, Associate for Social Concerns, Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops

Darlene Farah, murder victim family member (Jacksonville)

Rev. Dr. Russell Meyer – Director of Florida Council of Churches (Tampa)
