Lessons from Montgomery

December 28, 2018 by Mark Elliott

I was very fortunate to experience the EJI National Memorial for Peace and Justice “Lynching Memorial” and the Legacy Museum in Montgomery in November as part of a group of Florida faith leaders and death penalty opponents. Both sites touched me in ways that I hadn’t thought possible beforehand and the visit emboldened my lifelong opposition to the death penalty. The stories that are told at the memorial and the museum show just how cruel and unreasonable we human beings can be to each other, and I believe the death penalty continues the cruel legacy of lynching. My memories of this visit have strengthened my commitment to working more diligently to abolish the death penalty in Florida. Your support is needed now to launch dynamic direct action and awareness initiatives and strengthen and expand current successful action campaigns throughout the state.

Your contribution will fund coordinated, ambitious local and state actions by a broad, diverse, collaborative coalition to bring the day forward where we can live in a Florida without the legalized lynching of captive prisoners.

Your contribution today will make the work possible.

Your support is needed and appreciated – thank you!
