Rally to Tally Report

April 3, 2017 by Mark Elliott

Thursday, March 30, more than 400 concerned Floridians, representing a diversity of groups from across the state, rallied with us at the Capitol building in Tallahassee calling for an end to the death penalty and supporting Orlando State Attorney Aramis Ayala’s decision not to seek death sentences. 10 buses along with carpools brought Floridians from Pensacola, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa/St. Pete, Broward, and Miami-Dade. 130,000 petitions were delivered to Gov. Scott. It was a beautiful, powerful, and inspirational experience. More than 20 Florida leaders spoke passionately to the crowd about the current and historic realities of Florida’s death penalty program. The rally was absolutely thrilling and uplifting. Thank you everyone who made this possible. A bold, broad-based new era in the long struggle to end executions in our state has begun.
