Bulletin! We have just learned that this Tuesday morning, March 30, the Florida State Senate Criminal Justice Committee will hear an important bill that, if passed, would ensure that no one in Florida with serious mental illness would be subject to the death penalty.
A similar bill was signed into law in Ohio earlier this year. Now it’s Florida’s turn!
This is a significant step in the right direction and FADP strongly supports it. To pass, we need you and everyone to take action today!
Join us in calling on Florida State Senators to pass SB-1156 by Sen. Jeff Brandes, “Serious Mental Illness as Bar to Execution,” which would exempt those with serious mental illness from the death penalty. Please feel free to write to your Senator using your own words or here is a sample you can use.
Here is what to do:
Floridians Contact: Your State Senator.
Tell them: I am a constituent. I urge you to support SB-1156, which would exempt the seriously mentally ill from the death penalty. This is important to me because those with serious mental illness should never be executed.
For those outside Florida: Email Sen. Jason Pizzo in support of SB 1156 and cc: committee members
