Today, with your calls and emails paving the way, the Senate Criminal Justice Committee unanimously passed SB 1156 (Brandes, R-24), exempting those with serious mental illness from execution.
Incredible. This is what we have worked so hard for together.
It’s now all hands on deck. We need your help to keep up the momentum
First, please thank the members of the Florida State Senate Criminal Justice Committee for their “yes” vote on exempting people with serious mental illness from the death penalty. In your contact with committee member Brandes, please ask him to continue to lead on the issue by holding a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, which he chairs.
Feel free to add your personal reasons for supporting the bill. If you have a personal experience with mental illness, the death penalty, or the criminal justice system, please consider including that.
Then, please consider a gift to FADP to help us meet this amazing opportunity.
We can’t thank you enough for the role you have played in getting us to this moment. I pledge to keep you informed as the bill moves forward.
Onward together,
Mark
PS: If you are able, we’d appreciate a stretch gift at this time. With your help, together we will fully seize this opportunity to shine a light on the darkness of the death penalty.
